Mindfulness Based Living Course

The Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) is an eight-week course developed by the Mindfulness Association under the guidance of international mindfulness teacher Rob Nairn.

It is suitable for complete beginners or those who would like to deepen their mindfulness practice.

The MBLC is similar to other mindfulness-based courses, such as Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) or Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) but has the additional benefit of including methods for developing self-compassion and compassion towards others

The aims of the MBLC are to help participants:

  • Experience mindfulness in a safe supportive environment
  • Develop an ongoing personal home practice
  • Apply mindfulness in their daily lives
  • Cultivate kindness and compassion for self and others
  • Deepen understanding of the way we think, feel and react to difficult situations and to understand and practice mindful responses
  • Develop new ways of handling challenging physical sensations, feelings, moods or experiences

There is an introductory class before the eight-week course begins and a follow up class a month after the course ends.

A day of Mindfulness practice is also included between weeks 6 and 7

The weekly themes are:

  • Week 1 – Start Where We Are
  • Week 2 – The Body as a Place to Stay Present
  • Week 3 – Introducing Mindfulness Support
  • Week 4 – Working with Distraction
  • Week 5 – Exploring the Undercurrent
  • Week 6 – Attitude of the Observer
  • Day of Practice
  • Week 7 – Self-acceptance
  • Week 8 – A Mindfulness Based Life
  • Follow Up – The Rest of Your Life

Each session consists of a short teaching and explanation, guided practices, group reflection and enquiry. Participants will receive a comprehensive course manual by email and audio downloads of guided meditations for home practice. (printed versions of the manual and CD versions of the practices are available if required)
